Popcorn and American cap.

Strange title I know! It will make sense when you read.I watched with exuberance at the triumph of capturing and killing Osama Bin Laden last night. I had a big bowl of popcorn and a tall glass of chocolate milk as I watched the celebrations that took place at ground zero and the White House. This truly was a day this country has waited for, for a long time now. To watch the President of the United States announce the death of one of the worst people to ever exist was truly an amazing, historic moment for our country!

I also initially was very partisan with my approach with what had happened.
  • OBAMA DID IN 2 YEARS WHAT BUSH DIDN'T DO IN 7!
  • THOSE STUPID TEAPUBLICANS WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO CELEBRATE THIS HAHAHAHAHAAAAA!
  • I WONT ACCEPT BIN LADENS DEATH UNTIL I SEE HIS LONG FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE!
  • SO MUCH FOR THE BELIEF THAT OBAMA IS WEAK!
Believe me when I say that when I wear my liberal cap these are the things I am saying. But as I watched and was reminded of that awful day almost ten years ago, I remembered that this country was in such heartbreak, such sorrow, such pain that day. And it didn't matter whether you were a Democrat, or Republican, you were heartbroken and angry at what had happened. And most of us all had one common desire...Bin Laden will pay for this.

It never happened! And our country has been through so much since then that it's hard to even remember it all. But my point is, is that on a day like today we are all Americans who celebrate together the justice that we have all longed for. This was the first time I can remember that the entire country as a whole, no matter who you were, what you believed, who you supported, we all of us were celebrating! To me this is a day to put aside your ideological caps for a day and put on your American caps! I know I will.

This is a day this country has desperately needed for quite some time now and I hope I don't see it being ruined by petty partisanship or political name calling. There will be time for that later, and I'm sure I as much as any of my other fellow liberals will love the day we can thumb our noses at the conservatives who doubted our guy Obama! And believe me I do believe that May 1, 2011 will be remembered as the day that Barack Obama was re-elected! But today is much more than politics, it's a day for all Americans to be able to look at the families and friends of the victims of 911 and say that at least in some small way, we avenged there deaths!

This country needs a reason to celebrate right now! Lets all celebrate this! (unless you are one of the noble types that find it appalling to celebrate a death, no matter who it was). But please don't turn this in to yet another reason to turn on one another and say things that will quickly taint this day in to something from other than what it is.

On one more note I have to say how in awe I am in whoever was involved in the special operation to do this. Imagine you're on the chopper, or jet, or whatever they used to move in to the compound where Bin Laden was staying(and it was quite the large compound from what I've seen and heard) What are you thinking when you're seconds away from executing something you know will be historic? They have nerves of steel that I can't even fathom! Whoever was the ones who did this deserve as much credit as the president. God bless them!(or if you're an Athiest).....damn they rock!
