Tax Rates

Today the President announced his plans to cut into the national debt. Of all his proposals, one seems to have made a huge uproar in the GOP. Tax increases.

They are making it sound like it is tax hikes for all, that we will all be taxed into the ground. But that's not the case. He is proposing to cut the Bush era tax cuts given to the rich. Every household that makes over $250,000 a year, the top 2% of earners, will have those tax cuts removed. "Boohoo!", cries the GOP, "It's not fair to tax the wealthy, it will hurt the economy! They are the job makers! We can't punish the successful!".

That's all bullshit. What isn't fair is expecting the those most unable to pay to carry the country, while the rich take a free ride. If they are business owners they already have so many tax loopholes that they effectively pay nothing. If they are simply wealthy, or successful, we aren't trying to punish them. We are just asking them to carry their fair share. We can't cut programs that help the less fortunate, then decrease the taxes for the wealthy, and claim Mission Accomplished. Unless that mission is to cut the foundation of the country out from under us, and allow the rich to get bloated off of our overworked, unmedicated, emaciated corpses.

Personally, I like his plan. I think it's at least a step in the right direction. It seems realistic, and it is certainly better than the GOP's plan of 'cut everything the populace needs, then expect the country to run the same way it once did'. I also applaud him for not allowing budget cuts to essential public services, "That's not right and it's not going to happen as long as I'm president," He said. Here is hoping he can get it all approved.

  1. I'm hoping it does, but knowing how the GOP is with doing anything thats not right of center, it's probably a long shot.

  2. It will come down to another brink of media deemed,"government shutdown." I have a feeling the corporate media will shit on Obama's plan at every turn and the god awful, evil, just plain terrible Paul Ryan plan will get pretty much a free pass. We'll see, to be continued...
