First of all, you are so good at this podcast stuff. wow.
I would like to see it. When I saw the movie, Mormons and Mobsters, I about wet myself laughing. It was so right on with how people here in Utah are. I'm assuming that this musical is the same.
I went and bought the album from target just the other day. Anyone with a sense of humor and the mental fortitude to not throw a hissy fit when they hear the word "fuck" will enjoy it greatly.
My complaint as a former believer would be that (at least from listening to the soundtrack) the musical itself doesn't contain any actual stories from the Book of Mormon, which makes the title of the musical more than a little misleading.
A title like "A Mormon Mission" would have fit better, but I admit that such a title wouldn't have quite the same impact.
I didn't know the songs were available... I'll definitely download them. I like anything Parker and Stone do, by default. And speaking of enjoying shots taken at liberals, if they're funny... Team America... need I say more?
These guys are taking the same shit that Monty Python took from the Catholics after making Life of Brian. The difference is, no one really gives a shit if the Mormons are pissed off... At least not outside of Utah.
I believe it will, we have a few playhouses here that don't mind doing what would be considered offensive shows. The Capitol Theater is where I saw Avenue Q. I think the reception here will be middling, to be honest. I would love to see it, and I'm sure plenty of level-headed Mormons would as well, but many Mormons wouldn't pay a nickel because it may mock their beliefs. I'm hoping I'm wrong with that, because it does seem like such a great show. 9 Tony awards can't be wrong!
When we lived in SLC, we used to go to a comedy theater near the Capitol building. It parodied Salt Lake Politics to a tee, and was truly hilarious! Do you happen to know the name of that small playhouse?

ReplyDeleteIt could possibly be the Desert Star, or maybe something with the Pioneer Theater Company, but I'm not sure.
